Green Deconstruction Services, an Ohio company that specializes in orderly and selective demolition of existing structures, has recently completed a whole house project in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
This 3000 square foot, three story structure, built in the early 1920's was vacant, deemed too costly to renovate and slated to be knocked down and hauled to a landfill. The new owner wanted to do this as a "green" project, so Green Deconstruction Services provided a plan to re-use and re-cycle many components. Interior/exterior doors, millwork, flooring, cabinets, windows, sandstone, lighting fixtures, stair treads, select structural lumber, plumbing fixtures and much more were saved for re-use. In addition, the furnace, wiring, plumbing and similar items were removed and re-cycled. Many of the older window sashes (consisting of old growth sugar pine frames and wavey glass) were retained for re-use on historical renovation projects in Cleveland, Ohio.
By performing this project as "green",the owner saved money; decreasing his original demolition costs by 20%.
